LAKE CITY, S.D. - The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) Department has purchased Roy Lake Resort from long-time owner Jan Pitzl.
GFP took over operations from Pitzl on March 2. The resort will now be managed by the Roy Lake State Park district office, including watercraft rental, hotel and cabin reservations and the management of the convenience store.
There will be some transition while services are changed over and evaluated for future operation. Motel suites will be available starting May 8.
“We would like to thank Jan and Charls Pitzl for their years of amazing hospitality at Roy Lake Resort,” said GFP Parks Division director, Scott Simpson. “They provided thousands of visitors with great memories and we look forward to continuing to offer those same opportunities.”
Visitors who had made reservations for cabins and motel suites for the coming season are currently being contacted, and their reservations will be honored. For visitors looking for availability at Roy Lake, cabins will become available for rental on May 15.
“We are taking a complete inventory of the motel units and will eventually be looking at repricing some,” said Simpson. “We will strive to offer many of the same services, modified watercraft rentals, convenience store and bait sales. However, on-water gas sales will be discontinued.”
Reservation will be available through www.campsd.com or 1-800-710-CAMP as the units become available. Currently, all calls for the Roy Lake Resort are being routed through the state park office at (605).448.5701.
