SAVANNAH, Ga. – SCAD Savannah’s Athletic Director Doug Wollenburg is pleased to announce the hiring of Jared Kutil as the Men’s and Women’s Fishing Head Coach.
“Coach Kutil has an extensive background which includes competing in college, as well as on the professional tour states Athletic Director Wollenburg. “I am excited to have Coach Kutil on board and with his direction I look forward to the team competing at the highest level in Bassmaster, FLW and Cabela's events!"
Kutil comes to SCAD with a broad fishing tournament background over the past 16 years which includes his own top tournament finishes in collegiate, amateur and professional fishing competitions. In addition, Kutil brings with him a multitude of marketing, sales and business development tools from previous positions over the past six years.
Kutil has earned top finishes in FLW’s Bass Fishing League (BFL), FLW Costa Series, Bassmaster Opens, Hobie Bass Opens, Kayak Bass Fishing and other competition leagues. He has also competed among the top 50 FLW BFL All-American Championship Tournament.
Prior to SCAD, Kutil was the Corporate Sales Manager for Professional Edge Fishing, Inc. where he managed the sponsorship sales for several top professional Bassmaster Elite Series anglers, bass fishing media properties and a youth fishing charity. Before working for Professional Edge, Kutil was the Assistant Program Manager at The Bass University – a leading bass fishing education seminar and online training service.
Kutil graduated from Georgia College & State University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a concentration in marketing. While at Georgia College, Kutil co-founded the Georgia College Bass Fishing Team and served as the team’s Vice President for three years. During his time at Georgia College, FLW Magazine ranked the fishing team sixth in the nation.
"The opportunity to become SCAD's Head Coach of the Men's and Women's fishing teams and lead the Artist Anglers was an offer that I simply could not pass up” states Kutil. “I had an amazing experience with the Georgia College Bass Fishing team as a Co-Founder, Vice President, and competitor from 2008-2011. I cannot wait to utilize my own experience in college fishing and my professional business skill-set from working within the fishing industry over the past six years to continue building one of the top college fishing programs in the nation.
This fall and spring, I will be preparing my team for significant achievements in collegiate fishing competition with a practice strategy designed to improve each Artist Angler's overall fishing versatility, on-water decision making, and preparation for the bodies of water that they will be competing on. In addition to working with the 20+ Artist Anglers on the water, I look forward to assisting the team to the best of my ability with their preparation for future creative careers, both in or outside of the fishing industry. For the team members interested in applying their degree in art, digital media production, journalism, photography, industrial design, advertising, or other creative degree from SCAD towards a future career in the fishing industry, I have worked with many folks within these same creative fields in fishing throughout my professional career. Helping these students navigate the fishing industry to find the internships, jobs, and opportunities that they are seeking is an important goal of mine and I can only imagine the long term positive impact that we can have in the sport of fishing when these talented, bright minds start their careers."
