The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) is an international conservation organization with headquarters in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada. ASF’s mission is to conserve, protect, and restore wild Atlantic salmon and the ecosystems on which their well-being and survival depend.
The organization was founded in 1948 and works regionally, nationally and internationally to abate unsustainable fisheries, perform original scientific research, and ensure favorable policy and legislation affecting wild Atlantic salmon.
ASF is focused on wild Atlantic salmon, but our organization values diverse and healthy ecosystems that benefit all native animals and plants. Our advocacy is rooted in science and the precautionary principle of fisheries management.
ASF’s world renowned research team is supported by regional staff in each of the Atlantic Canadian provinces, Quebec, and Maine, as well as communications professionals and development officers that work to match financial resources with operational requirements.
The Position & Individual
The Atlantic Salmon Federation is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the daily financial and administrative activities of the organization.
The CFO reports to and takes direction from the President and Chief Executive Officer. The ideal candidate possesses a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or another related field, as well as a professional accounting designation. Applicants should have extensive experience working in administration and financial management. Knowledge of the rules governing the operation of a registered charity would be considered an asset.
The CFO is responsible for overseeing many of the internal finance and human resource tasks of the organization and directly supervises two support staff.
She/he works to ensure proper functioning of all financial administration and accounting processes, including budgets, employee compensation and benefits, developing and ensuring compliance with internal control policies, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash, and credit management.
The CFO is responsible for preparing annual budgets, financial statements, and compliance with governmental and other financial regulatory agencies. The CFO leads budgeting and other financial planning exercises within the organization.
The CFO is a member of ASF’s Management Team providing advice and input on all aspects of program delivery and conservation priorities. In addition to working collaboratively with the President and CEO, the successful candidate will develop and maintain positive working relationships with other senior managers and staff.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are a must as the CFO works closely with staff and directors, particularly members of board committees overseeing finance and other administrative matters.
Written and spoken proficiency in English is essential. French language skills are considered an asset. The position is located at ASF’s headquarters and includes a competitive salary and benefits.
