Jacob Wheeler moved up two spots and is back atop the BassFan World Rankings to start the 2018 season.

Wheeler has 199.152 points, roughly 3 1/2 points ahead of Jason Christie, who stayed put at No. 2.

Wheeler previously held the No. 1 position last May and June. The Indiana native, who now resides in Tennessee, had a strong finish to the 2017 Bassmaster Elite Series season with a fourth-place showing at Lake Champlain, a 22nd at Lake St. Clair and another 4th at the Angler of the Year Championship at Mille Lacs Lake.

Brandon Palaniuk, fresh off his first career Elite Series AOY title, slipped two spots to 3rd.

Jordan Lee advanced two spots to 4th while Keith Combs, who won at Mille Lacs last fall, shot up 10 spots into 5th.

Kevin VanDam retreated two places to 6th while Mark Rose, fresh off a 3rd-place finish at the FLW Tour opener at Lake Okeechobee, improved four spots to 7th. Ott DeFoe stayed put in 8th.

Reigning FLW Tour AOY Bryan Thrift also slipped two spots to 9th while Cody Meyer made a seven-spot leap into 10th.

Tim Frederick, winner of the Lake Okeechobee FLW Tour, made an 87-place leap to 62nd.

Other notable improvements were:

> Bryan Schmitt (FLW Tour): 11th (from 24th) 
> Michael Neal (FLW Tour): 18th (from 28th) 
> Brandon McMillan (FLW Tour): 31st (from 46th)

The World Rankings will next be updated following the Lake Martin Elite Series, which begins Feb. 8.
