Mitigation Plan for Colorado's Cache la Poudre Basin

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the Fish and Wildlife Mitigation and Enhancement Plans proposed by Northern Water for its "Northern Integrated Supply Project" to build two off-channel reservoirs in the Cache la Poudre basin. The plans had been amended to address concerns raised by CPW and Trout Unlimited. CTU endorsed the final plans as reasonable measures to protect fish and wildlife should the NISP project be built - but has not yet taken a position on the project itself. The plan includes a program to enhance base flows on the Poudre through Fort Collins, a peak "flushing" flow program, and millions of dollars in stream improvements. Read more.
