LBL Division of BFL Heads for Kentucky/Barkley Lakes
GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 2, 2010) - The Bass Fishing League is headed to Kentucky and Barkley lakes Sept. 11-12 for the LBL Division's two-day Super Tournament. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

"Usually this time of year it's a fall-type fishing deal and fishing gets a bit tougher," said National Guard pro Ramie Colson Jr. of Cadiz, Ky. "But the key will be brushpiles in backs of bays on Barkley. The fish like to get around stumps and brush in about 6 feet of water. You can also use a (Heddon) Spook or Spook Jr. early in the morning. And when the sun gets up, a 10-inch worm and a jig work well deep.

"The same goes for Kentucky Lake," Colson added. "And when it gets overcast and cloudy, a white double-willow ½-ounce spinnerbait is good. And if there is current on Kentucky Lake, use a big worm or jig in 4 to 6 feet of water on flats near the river."

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Moors Resort and Marina located at 570 Moors Rd. in Gilbertsville, Ky. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. each day while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Kentucky and Barkley lakes BFL tournament is being hosted by the Marshall County Tourist Commission.

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings following the tournament will qualify for a regional championship where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing - the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the FLW American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
