ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — A popular girls' getaway for over 20 years, "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!" provides female anglers a learn-on-the-water weekend of education combined with a one-day, fun Screamin’ Reels tournament. Events are to be held Friday and Saturday, June 22-23, in the Florida Keys' sport fishing capital of Islamorada.
The tournament is perfect for novices, while also providing an opportunity for experienced lady anglers to polish their skills. All participants can put responsible angling into practice and apply learned fishing skills in nonintimidating offshore and inshore competition.
Friday kicks off with an educational class on offshore fishing and conservation conducted by longtime Keys charter boat Captain Skip Bradeen, plus an appetizer contest scheduled 6-8 p.m. at Islamorada’s Seaside Glass Works, mile marker (MM) 82 bayside.
Saturday is a day of fishing, learning on the water and friendly angler competition. Charter boats are to depart at 7 a.m. from Whale Harbor Marina, MM 83.5 oceanside, and anglers can fish until 3 p.m.Participants can fish from their own boats or utilize the charters supplied by the event organizers.
Prizes for inshore and offshore species and releases include Heaviest Fish Overall, Offshore Billfish Release, Party Boat Award, Longest Inshore Fish and Wild Card prizes.
"Our popular Keys events offer a unique vacation getaway where women can learn, network and enjoy the fabulous Florida Keys and its remarkable fishing," said Betty Bauman, LLGF founder.
