CATALOGS
The end of summer doesn't mean the end of fishing season. As temperatures cool down, the fishing heats up and Cabela's is ready to outfit autumn anglers with their 2008 Fall Fishing Catalog, 76 pages of fishing and marine equipment with an optimum assortment of rods, reels, tackle and gear, including the first look at 2009 offerings from Shimano, Daiwa and others.


COMPETITIONS
The Okie Division of the BFL will wrap up their season on Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma on September 6-7.
The Bass Fishing League season will wrap up on September 6-7 on Watts Bar Lake in Spring City, Tennessee when the Volunteer Division of the BFL holds its fifth and final event of the season.
The final event of the five tournament season of the Illini Division of the Bass Fishing League will be held September 6-7 on the Ohio River in Golconda, Illinois.
As many as 200 boaters and a like number of co-anglers are expected when the Mississippi Division of the BFL wraps up its season in Greenville, Mississippi on Lake Ferguson, September 6-7.
The Dixie Division of the $8.8 million Walmart Bass Fishing League® will visit Lay Lake in Columbiana, Alabama, September 6-7 for its final regular-season event.
From its modest beginning three years ago with 24 colleges participating, the 2008 BoatU.S. National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship is expected to kick off on September 18 on Lake Lewisville, TX with a record 100 teams from nearly 60 colleges across the U.S. Those collegiate anglers that make it to Saturday's final round are expected to fish for almost 24 hours over the three days, with the coverage to air on the Fox College Sports and Fox Sports Net this fall. Over $35,000 in scholarship money is at stake for top-finishing schools.


EVENTS
Republican presidential candidate John McCain is scheduled to address the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance Foundation's twelfth annual "Save Our Heritage" Rally at the Alladin Shrine Temple in Columbus, Ohio. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27 and features sportsmen from across Ohio gathered to celebrate the victories of sportsmen everywhere and to raise funds to support hunting, fishing and trapping.


LEGISLATION
In an August 25 Executive Memo to the Secretary's of Defense, Interior and Commerce and the Chairman of the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), President Bush directed them to study potential marine protected areas in the central Pacific Ocean. The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) supports the President for his direction to the agencies and CEQ to sustain access to recreational fishing as part of their study.


MEDIA
The September/October edition of the award-winning Bassmaster Magazine is in BASS member mailboxes now. Features in this edition include "A day on the lake with Steve Kennedy" and a feature that should help anglers save fuel when towing.
The latest edition of the BASS Reporter's Notebook includes three Elite Series pros who are facing about eight weeks of wait to find out if they'll be fishing the Classic February 20-22 on Louisiana's Red River out of Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana.


MEDIA NOTICES
Officials representing the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Lake Delton Village Board will be gathering on Thursday, August 28th on the shores of the lake for the announcement of the Lake Delton Fisheries Restoration Project. Earlier this summer, rains caused Lake Delton to breach its shoreline and drain into the nearby Wisconsin River.


NOTICES
The public boat launch at Pleasant Harbor near Brinnon on Hood Canal will be closed September 8-12 while the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) wraps up an improvement project at the site.


PEOPLE
Abu Garcia announces the newest addition to its star-studded pro team: country music star Tracy Byrd. The Beaumont, Texas, native joins the Abu Garcia team as an Honorary Pro Staff member.


WATERWAYS
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is monitoring flood levels and coordinating with our law enforcement and emergency management partners in Volusia, Seminole, Orange and Brevard counties daily to determine what, if any, changes are needed to the emergency rule enacted yesterday on the St. Johns River.
