EDITOR'S NOTE This evening, the competitor in the 2008 Forrest Wood Cup will be completing their registration processes, mixing with the media and getting ready for the first launch of the richest tournament in bass fishing. Tomorrow morning at seven, they'll blast off onto South Carolina's Lake Murray to begin the four-day competition. We'll be at the Cup the remainder of this week and will keep you posted as the final major of 2008's tournament season comes to a close. Last year, you'll remember, Scott Suggs became the first angler ever to win $1,000,000 in a single event. COMPETITIONS The Buckeye Division of the $8.8 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League® will visit the Ohio River in Maysville August 23 for the fourth of five regular-season events. EVENTS A variety of resources are available at www.nhfday.org for media members covering National Hunting and Fishing Day, the Congressionally appointed annual commemoration of hunters, anglers and conservation. MEDIA WFN: World Fishing Network, North America's only 24-hour channel dedicated to fishing and the angler lifestyle, will announce later today that it has joined forces with the Professional Anglers Association (PAA) to launch an original series to debut January 2009 on WFN and WFNHD. ![]() Fishing Wire Snapshot - Week Of August 11, 2008 ![]() Washington County, Florida resident James Mitchell now holds the Florida state-record for blue catfish. Last Monday afternoon, Mitchell took the 64 pound, 8 ounce, 53 1/2 inch long blue cat on the Choctawhatchee River, breaking the previous state record by three pounds. The 64-year-old Mitchell, who is disabled but still enjoys fishing, needed the help of his son and grandson to pull the fish over the side of his boat. He said the one-minute fight left him worn out.
