TOP STORY
In-Fisherman, a division of InterMedia Outdoors, Inc., has announced that after 19 years, it will discontinue operation of the Professional Walleye Trail (PWT) after the 2008 season. The PWT has served as a proving ground for new tackle and marine equipment and the birthplace for innovative tactics that have made anglers across the country more successful. Along the way the PWT has awarded millions of dollars in cash and prizes to thousands of professional and amateur participants. Reasons given are sponsorship support not covering expenses and declining angler participation.


COMPETITIONS
The Lee King Benefit Tournament is a growing fund raising event for research of Niemann-Pick Disease. The Blackfin Skeg was a proud sponsor of this year's Lee King Benefit Tournament.


EVENTS
Today, the Indiana State Fair is offering a free youth fishing opportunity at the DNR Fishin' Pond near the Natural Resources Building on the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The 312,000 gallon, 8,300 square foot pond is stocked with bluegill and catfish.


FISHERIES
For the first time since 2004, Lake Wenatchee sockeye salmon fishing will open today (Aug. 6). The daily fishery will close when the harvest quota is reached, likely on short notice, said Jeff Korth, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) north-central region fish program manager.


INDUSTRY
Richardsons' Chartbooks and Cruising Guides has purchased Maptech Inc.'s marine printed products division, publishers of ChartKits, Embassy Cruising Guides and Maptech Waterproof Charts, for an undisclosed amount.


LICENSING
Alabama fishing and hunting licenses for the 2008-2009 seasons will go on sale Wednesday, August 27, 2009. The license year normally starts on September 1, 2008, but is disrupted by the Labor Day weekend. All recreational annual licenses, regardless of their purchase date, will expire August 31, 2009.

Bass Edge Host Aaron Martin is a guest this week on the Great American Outdoor Trails Radio Magazine, hosted by Jim Ferguson.


MEDIA ADVISORY
Maryland Department of Natural Resources Deputy Secretary Eric Schwaab will present Governor's Citations to ten marinas at the 10th Annual Clean Marina Awards Ceremony today. A tour of Clark's Landing Shady Oaks Marina will showcase some of the best management practices implemented to become a "Clean Marina."

On Monday, August 18, there will be a live via satellite interview opportunity with Charlie Evans, FLW Tour President and the winner of the 2008 Forrest Wood Cup World Championship that will have wrapped up on Sunday, August 17.


PUBLIC HEARINGS
A public hearing on proposed boating restrictions for Indiana lakes Tippecanoe and James will be held August 21 at the North Webster Community Center Gymnasium. A variety of restrictions to protect the Ball Wetlands are on the agenda including the establishment of a trolling-motor-only zone and establishing restricted zones.


WORKSHOPS
The Lake Michigan Coastal Grants Program and the Coastal Nonpoint Pollution Control Program will host a joint grant workshop, August 14 in Chesterton, Indiana.The Lake Michigan Coastal Grants Program is an annual competitive grants program that awards up to $700,000 to units of local government, regional and state agencies, colleges and universities, as well as non-profit organizations.
